The most urbanised pod in the world...

Chelsea

A pod of bottlenose dolphins have made the Port River their home.

There are between 30 and 50 dolphins living in the extended Port River area and many more who visit to calve, feed or shelter each year.

Because the dolphins live so close to a big city, they face threats that most dolphin pods don't. The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (based at Port Adelaide) research, educate and campaign for their ongoing protection.

Sadly Chelsea and her mother Billie both died in 2009. WDCS are working to improve conditions for the Port River dolphins but they can't do it without much-needed financial support. Make a difference by adopting a Port River dolphin.

The dolphins are frequently seen in the area next to Dolphinity Apartments.
